  • At this time Peace Corps does not have confirmation of which countries will have Director of Programming and Training openings during the next hiring cycle. Applicants who move successfully through the initial application process become part of a roster from which Regions conduct additional interviews in order to match applicants with confirmed openings. Locations may include the following Regions: Latin America, South America, Central America, Caribbean, Sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa, Pacific Islands, South East Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, Middle East, East Asia, Moldova and Armenia.

    This is an Excepted Service Appointment. Initial appointments to the Peace Corps normally are for 60 months (5 years). Employees are paid on the Foreign Service pay scale and receive the same benefits as other Federal employees. A background security investigation will be required for all hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

    Candidate's years of specialized experience and the Peace Corps policy will determine the grade level being offered.

    Positions may be filled at any grade level. The starting grade for each position will be based on the needs of management and of the specific overseas post, as well as the qualifications of the selected candidate.

    Fluent foreign language (professional level) will be required for some positions. Some positions require fluency in French, Spanish, or Portuguese. Other languages will be required according to the needs of the post. Applicants will be screened for language proficiency during the interview process. Ensure that you indicate your language proficiency in your application.

    The date on which an office requests a roster of candidates will be considered the closing date for applications for the purpose of applying veterans preference rights. As this is an open continuous announcement, multiple rosters will be issued.     Candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to meet this requirement will be grounds for non-selection or if the candidate has been hired, termination of employment.

    Candidates and eligible dependents will be required to obtain a medical clearance as a condition of employment. The clearance is granted by the Department of State, Office of Medical Services. Failure to meet this requirement will be grounds for non-selection.

    This is a Federal Government civilian job called an Excepted Appointment. As an Excepted Service agency, Peace Corps employees are paid on the Foreign Service pay scale and employment is time-limited not to exceed 5 years.


Duties:

  • This position is located in a Peace Corps post overseas. The Director of Programming and Training (DPT) leads and directs programming and training activities and supervises a multi- cultural programming and training staff. The DPT reports to, and is supervised by, the Country Director.

    The Director of Programming and Training provides assistance to the Peace Corps Country Director in the administration of the Peace Corps program providing oversight, supervision, and support to Peace Corps staff and Volunteers in the development, management, and evaluation of projects and training .

    The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the maintenance of quality programming and training consistent with the interests of the host country government and Peace Corps policies and priorities; and providing administrative and technical assistance for the Volunteers and serving as primary contact for programming and training requirements and procedures.

    The incumbent evaluates overall organizational effectiveness and develops strategies and action plans to meet training, programming, and Volunteer support needs as appropriate.

    The Director of Programming and Training may be designated Acting Country Director in the absence of the Peace Corps Country Director.

  • Provides post level advice and guidance, including interpretations, opinions, or decisions, regarding Peace Corps Volunteer-related programs or policies. Assesses program or policy conditions, service, or anomalies.
  • Performs work related to developing and maintaining relationships with host country government officials, Embassy personnel, local authorities, and other stakeholders.
  • Works with Program Managers and other staff to ensure a positive Volunteer experience.
  • Researches and prepares a variety of written materials related to administrative or program work, such as researching program trends and preparing correspondence, memoranda, white papers, or other documents relevant to program activities.
