  • This is an Excepted Service Appointment. Initial appointments to the Peace Corps normally are for 60 months. Employees are paid on the Foreign Service pay scale and receive the same benefits as other Federal employees. A background security investigation will be required for all hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.


Duties:

  • This position is in the Operations group within the Office of the Chief Information Officer of the Peace Corps. Our Domestic Infrastructure systems are located in the Agency's onsite data center, and are the hub of the network which connects all our sites -- providing core infrastructure services such as network authentication, email, mobile device support, storage, web services, and a wide range of enterprise databases and applications. The IT Specialist role entails providing on-site business-day support of the Peace Corps HQ windows and Linux Systems including, System Administration, patching, performing backups, and disaster recovery operations. Other duties include monitoring of server uptime, performance of routine operational maintenance procedures, completion of daily operational checklists, tier-one troubleshooting and incident escalation, and providing additional as-needed support to the Infrastructure Operations, Engineering, and Deskside Support teams.

    Installs, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains hardware and software to ensure the availability and functionality of the systems. Recovers data in the event of hardware or software failure.
  • Coordinates system operation/maintenance efforts. Determines the actions required of various units that must contribute to the operation and maintenance of the broadcasting system. Establishes coordinated schedules and milestones for the operation and maintenance functions.
  • Sets up, operates, and monitors computer systems and peripheral equipment such as printers, tape drives, scanners, and external modems.
  • Maintains manuals, reference books, and/or software instructions associated with the programs and systems used in the organization.
