Duties:

  • Evaluates and recommends action to decision makers on concept papers, abstracts, applications for funding, and related matters to support assessment of compliance with grant program requirements, relevance to issues and priorities, and possible contribution to the adoption of evidence-based practices in the corrections/PREA implementation area. Negotiates technical aspects of criminal justice programs on the federal grants, contracts, cooperative agreements, and inter-agency agreements to ensure the greatest potential for success and impact of BJA's vital PREA Implementation Program. Oversees developments across the country related to corrections/PREA implementation to ensure program implementation.
  • Provides leadership in coordinating the goals, objectives and interests of the federal government's role in offering criminal justice grant program leadership and related cooperative agreement activities to state, tribal and local agencies and other criminal justice partners. Formulates innovative and/or comprehensive corrections/PREA implementation planning strategies and program plans to accomplish agency-wide goals and objectives in corrections/PREA implementation. Makes recommendations related to corrections/PREA grant program formulation and long-range planning in connection with prospective changes in functions in the corrections/PREA area.
  • Researches and prepares analysis on criminal justice program issues, providing expert guidance or analysis in corrections/PREA implementation. Represents the organization in developing and maintaining effective relationships with national, state, tribal, and local experts, administrators, high-level officials, policy makers, and planners. Serves as a BJA representative in corrections/PREA implementation on agency or inter-agency task forces whose members include high-level DOJ officials and other executive branch representatives. Provides inter-agency liaison services to federal agencies providing specific support and services in corrections/PREA implementation.
  • Provides expert criminal justice advice and guidance on broad grant and/or cooperative agreement-related projects and programs with impact on major agency corrections and PREA programs. Develops and/or reviews criminal justice program materials, such as program and strategic plans, solicitation content and budget recommendations, justification and program assessment of outcomes addressing BJA program priorities. Prepares analytical reports, memorandum, concept papers, budget documents and other types of written responses that are disseminated to internal and external audiences to include various practitioner groups, researchers, Congressional committees, and the general public.
