    BPA is a not-for-profit federal electric utility. Our high-voltage transmission grid comprises more than 15,000 miles of lines and associated substations in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. The power is produced at 31 federal dams operated by the Army Corps of Engineers and Bureau of Reclamation and one nuclear plant in the Northwest and is sold to more than 140 Northwest utilities. BPA purchases power from seven wind projects and has more than 4,700 megawatts of wind interconnected to its transmission system.

    The Asset Management and Engineering Applications organization provides data , application and software support , release migration, application expansion and integration for applications which: 1) support agency's geospatial (GIS); 2) support Computer Aided Design systems (CAD) and knowledge workers; and 3) support miscellaneous computerized systems that support the daily business activities of BPA's knowledge workers.

    Functional Statement:

    The incumbent serves as an IT Specialist (DATAMGT/SYSADMIN) with a focus on geographic information system (GIS) data and applications. The incumbent works with BPA clients to analyze business application and data needs, work methods/business processes and data element/flow in order to identify, design and describe business rules and practices in support of data/system requirement development.

  • Develops database designs based on organizational mission and functional requirements. Defines data elements, data relationships, and data tables using database theory including entity relationship diagramming; object-oriented, hierarchical, and relational design; and data normalization.
  • Analyzes database performance and makes modifications as necessary to improve resource utilization, increase stability and efficiency, and reduce system response time. Monitors the database size and growth, table allocation, disk utilization, and query performance. Improves performance through data indexing, query optimization, and de-normalization.
  • Installs, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains hardware and software to ensure the availability and functionality of the systems. Recovers data in the event of hardware or software failure.
