    This position is located in Power System Control (PSC) Technical Services, System Control Engineering, Engineering and Technical Services in Transmission Services.

    About the Power System Control (PSC) Technical Services Organization

    Power System Control (PSC) Technical Services is responsible for technical leadership of the PSC maintenance function and the PSC Functional Team. Services include expert analysis, troubleshooting support on complex problems, creation and updates of maintenance standards and guides, Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) support, coordination of test equipment and spare parts, emergency telecommunications, technical training and acceptance testing of new communications equipment.

Duties:

  • Designs or directs the development of controversial or leading-edge technology, equipment, or systems. Provides comprehensive engineering and design support for BPA's control, telecommunication, protection, measurement and data acquisition facilities and associated equipment. Serves as the subject matter expert in the maintenance of communications systems and recognized as a resource for consultation with design organizations. Equipment areas are:

    - Telephone Systems (DATS, Key Systems, Leased Lines, associated equipment)

    - Test Equipment evaluation, purchasing and support including TEAP participation

    - Analog and Digital UHF/VHF radio systems

    - 46A3-SC Analog MUX

    - Badger Alarm System

    - Digital protocol support (G.703, C37.94, DS1 Basics, etc)
  • Serves as an engineering technical specialist in the test, checkout, and readiness of electronic, mechanical, and electro-mechanical systems or equipment that involve new concepts and new and varied problems to be solved. Provides comprehensive engineering and evaluation support for BPA's control, telecommunication, protection, measurement and data acquisition facilities and associated equipment. As the subject matter expert, is recognized as a resource for evaluation of new equipment and all aspects of test equipment requirements, calibration, evaluation and repair for the equipment types listed above.
  • Exercises advanced technical knowledge of the limitations of proven concepts and practices on systems, equipment, and/or hardware to correctly evaluate problem resolution alternatives or the risk associated with using or replacing a nonconforming component. As the subject matter expert, is available for support of field engineering troubleshooting, training, spare parts, and emergency restoration for the above equipment areas.
  • Serves as a technical specialist and principal investigator in development programs that investigate integrated circuits and their associated systems. Identifies and tracks part malfunctions, system errors or training failures for the above equipment areas.
