    This is a primary law enforcement position under the provision of 5 USC 8336(c) (CSRS) and 8412(d) (FERS). Applicants must be under age 37. Applicants who are age 37 or over may subtract any of their prior federal service that is in approved primary/rigorous positions and that is creditable for retirement from their current age to meet this age requirement. Applicants must provide proof of this creditable service prior to appointment.
    The Maximum entry-age requirement is waved for veterans preference eligible applicants. In instances where the maximum entry-age is waved, the corresponding mandatory retirement age for these individuals will also be higher because it will be reached after 20 years of Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) service for the entitlement to an immediate enhanced annuity.

Duties:

  • Coordinates and conducts investigations.
    LAW ENFORCEMENT RETIREMENT COVERAGE: This is a primary law enforcement position under the provisions of 5 USC 8336(c) (CSRS) and 8412(d) (FERS).
    Responsible for performing law enforcement duties including detection, investigation, apprehension, detention, and prosecution activities associated with the enforcement of the laws and regulations relating to the safe uses of National Forest System lands and resources.
  • Conducts law enforcement related investigations on cases involving the execution of various investigative functions. Researches and analyzes information, determines actions to be taken, documents cases, formalizes reports, and/or makes recommendations.
  • Prepares for or participates in special hearings.
