This is an Excepted Service Appointment. Initial appointments to the Peace Corps are normally for 60 months (5 years). Employees are paid on the Foreign Service pay scale and receive the same benefits as other Federal employees. A background security investigation will be required for all hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

Duties:
This position is located in the Knowledge & Learning Unit (KLU) in the Office of Overseas Programming and Training Support (OPATS). The mission of OPATS is to develop and coordinate guidance, training, and learning for overseas staff and Volunteers. The Knowledge & Learning Unit (KLU) of the Office of Overseas Programming and Training Support (OPATS) promotes and contributes to the Peace Corps as a learning and knowledge-sharing organization by providing reference, technical, and training materials to staff, Volunteers, and other stakeholders. KLU supports capacity building through knowledge sharing and exchange by using the most appropriate delivery systems available. Publications KLU team members work with other OPATS specialists to publish manuals and other training resources for Volunteers and overseas staff. Publications are available in various print and digital formats, including new e-book formats. Information Resource Centers (IRC) at posts enhance the programming and training at that Peace Corps posts by providing access to publications and other information resources to assist Volunteers and staff in their work. KLU staff provides guidance, support and training for the IRC managers who maintain these IRCs. The Peace Corps HQs IRC has a physical print collection or library of about 2500 books, primarily focused on training topics related to the work of OPATS. Other collections include: travel guides; world literature; and a unique, historical Peace Corps collection. At this time, we are only able to circulate these resources within the Peace Corps/Washington building. PCLive is a new globally-available knowledge and information exchange platform for Peace Corps Volunteers, staff, and stakeholders. Volunteers can access PCLive to search for relevant materials, share resources, and ask questions. Staff can use it as a digital community to connect with many Volunteers at once and serve as a visible resource for best practices and new innovations. KLU also hosts Peace Corps University, an online learning platform to provide courses that are beneficial to staff and Volunteer development.
Manage Peace Corps Library - Peace Corps/Washington Information Resource Center (IRC)
Develops and manages the Peace Corps Library network, including the Peace Corps/Washington Information Resource Center (IRC), which provides the Peace Corps community with a wide range of information resources and services and serves as a model IRC for the IRCs at posts. Responsibilities include collection development, acquisitions, cataloging, research and reference services, planning and reporting, and all aspects of small library management.
