  • In 2010, the Peace Corps completed a Comprehensive Agency Assessment that included a recommendation to reduce the number of distinct Peace Corps Volunteer activities worldwide to focus in on the activities where Peace Corps Volunteers can have the biggest impact. Peace Corps has narrowed its focus while improving the technical training that Volunteers receive. One of the top priorities has been the creation of various training packages that will outline minimum standards for Volunteer training while focusing on results. This process is called the Focus In/Train Up (or FITU) strategy. Under FITU, a youth development continuum for training was reconfirmed; the Peace Corps identified our needs in this sector and began creating a training curriculum to address them.

Duties:

  • Plans, develops, and implements curriculum to train Peace Corps staff and Volunteers in the Youth in Development sector. Assesses program or course curriculum, content, and instructional materials to coordinate the development of course products.

Designs and delivers courses, workshops, and other staff development activities to strengthen staff competencies in youth development. Designs needs assessments to determine content for workshops or courses for face to face or online events.
  • Oversees the development and revision of training materials, resources, and manuals for youth in development sector training packages for Volunteers (requires expertise in healthy lifestyles, world of work preparation, or youth civic engagement).
  • Establishes and promotes an understanding of technical issues in Peace Corps for youth development and volunteering or service programs.
  • Determines direction for standard agency approaches to youth project design, implementation, and evaluation. Develops, improves, and tracks progress on youth standard sector indicators. Creates or improves monitoring and evaluation tools for Volunteers working in Youth in Development projects.
