    This is an Excepted Service Appointment. Initial appointments to the Peace Corps are normally for 60 months (5 years). Employees are paid on the Foreign Service pay scale and receive the same benefits as other Federal employees. A background security investigation will be required for all hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

    Candidate's years of specialized experience and the Peace Corps policy will determine the grade level being offered. Country Director positions may be filled at either the FP-02 or FP-01 grade level. The starting grade for each position will be based on the needs of management and of the specific overseas post, as well as the qualifications of the selected candidate.

    Fluent foreign language (professional level) may be required for some positions. Some positions require fluency in French, Spanish, or Portuguese. Other languages will be required according to the needs of the post. Applicants will be screened for language proficiency during the interview process. Ensure that you indicate your language proficiency in your application.

    Applicants are requested to provide justification to support their candidacy in the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)/ Competencies portion of the application. The most competitive applicants are those that address how their experience matches the KSA/Competencies.

    Candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance prior to the beginning of Overseas Staff Training. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to meet this requirement will be grounds for non-selection or if the candidate has been hired, termination of employment.

    Candidates and eligible dependents will be required to obtain a medical clearance as a condition of employment. The clearance is granted by the Department of State, Office of Medical Services. Failure to meet this requirement will be grounds for non-selection.

    This is a Federal Government civilian job called an Excepted Appointment. As an Excepted Service agency, Peace Corps employees are paid on the Foreign Service pay scale and employment is time-limited not to exceed 5 years.

Duties:

  • The Peace Corps Country Director (CD) plans and directs all aspects of the Peace Corps program in the country of assignment.
  • The Country Director ensures that day-to-day opeations create an environment for Volunteers and staff to work successfully and perform their duties and responsiblities.
  • The Country Director is the senior Peace Corps representative in the country of assignment.
