What Pathways Program opportunities are open to me now?

The Internship Program is the first of three Pathways Programs to be implemented by federal agencies. The Internship Program replaces the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) and the Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP). Students will be exposed to the work of the government through these internships and will be paid while pursuing their degree.

Am I eligible for the Pathways Internship Program?

Internship Program positions are open to students who are currently enrolled at least half-time in qualifying high school/GED, vocational, technical, undergraduate, graduate or professional programs.

What is a "qualifying educational institution" program?

Qualifying educational institutions/programs include: a high school/GED whose curriculum has been approved by a state or local governing body, or a home-school curriculum; and any accredited technical or vocational school, two or four-year college or university, a graduate or professional school, or a post-secondary home-school curriculum.

Where do I find Pathways Internships?

You may search for Internship opportunity announcements here at Avue by clicking on The Programs link on GovInterns or on the Job Search link within AvueCentral. Agencies are responsible for posting their own Pathways job opportunity announcements. It is at each agency's discretion whether to use the Pathways Program to recruit and how many positions may be available at any given time. Many agencies are in the process of establishing their Pathways program.

Does veterans' preference apply to Pathway Program internships and job opportunities?

Yes, veterans' preference applies to all Pathways Program job opportunities.

If you qualify for veterans' preference, be sure to upload a DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty and, if applicable, an SF 15, with your application.

How do I apply for these internships?

Follow the application instructions provided in the How to Apply section of the Job Opportunity Announcement (JOA). If you find an opportunity in USAJOBs, for example, you will be led to the application site (such as AvueCentral) when you click Apply Now.
