  • Are you interested in working for an agency whose mission is to inform the development of national civil rights policy and enhance enforcement of federal civil rights law? If so, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights has an opening for a Supervisory Attorney-Advisor (General Counsel) in the Office of the General Counsel. The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights pursue their mission by studying alleged deprivations of voting rights and alleged discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, age, disability or national origin or in the administration of justice. The Commission plays a vital role in advancing civil rights through objective and comprehensive investigation, research and analysis on issues of fundamental concern to the federal government and the public.

Duties:

  • Supervises a group of employees and provides administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit.

    Performs the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised. Plans, schedules, and assigns work to subordinates. Establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff members; provides feedback and periodically evaluates employee performance. Provides advice, counsel, and/or instruction to staff members. Recommends or approves appointments, selections, or reassignments to positions appropriate to the selection authority delegated. Effects disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area. Carries out Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and program activities.
  • Serves as an organizational or agency representative for discussions regarding civil rights law. Addresses civil rights law issues including discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, age, disability or national origin, or in the administration of justice.

  • Provides professional legal advice on civil rights law and related services to a range of individuals within USCCR and
    in other federal agencies.
  • Maintains liaison with individuals in USCCR, in other federal agencies, in state and local governments. May provide liaison services to Congress.
